Nelson Mandela was 18 when we met him. He’d stopped attending Secondary school as he was in arrears with his school fees and wasn’t allowed back until the debt was cleared. Muhoroni People’s Fund visited the school and paid the outstanding fees through fundraising as Nelson was a bright and willing student. Nelson sat his exams and passed. Nelson was guided through options and decided on skills based training.
Nelson started college training to be a mechanic. His course is 3 years and when he’s qualified he has an 85% chance of immediate work. We love those odds! Fundraising paid for Nelson’s first 2 years college fees.
He walks 11km each way to college each day, leaving home at 6am and returning at 7pm.
There are many other students in Nelson’s position – please donate or email us to sponsor a student.
