Case Study – Kelvin

Kelvin’s Story

Kelvin was 4 months old and weighed 3kg when he first arrived at the malnutrition clinic in Kibigori in July 2020.

Due to a birth defect he couldn’t breastfeed and was severely malnourished and his condition too serious to treat by our clinic. We transported Kelvin and his mum Mourinne to Kisumu hospital where he was admitted and spent the next 3 months gaining weight.

Funds were raised to transport Kelvin, along with 2 other children Phoebe and Garvin – all with Cleft lips and palates to a charity run hospital where they were assessed for corrective surgery and given guidance on the use of specialist feeding bottles.

We see Kelvin on a weekly basis, providing infant formula milk and checking his progress. Kelvin is due to have surgery by the end of 2020 as he’s reached a good weight for surgery.
