We met Sharon a few years ago when she was pregnant and in hospital with a chest infection.
Sharon had her phone stolen at the end of December so couldn’t keep in touch with her. We’ve been quite concerned as no-one around the mission hospital or church had seen her this year. We visited her hubby Kendrick in his shop then took the boda bodas over to her house. She was physically well but quite low. (We were relieved to find her and that she wasn’t under the patio) Baby Max is 11/2 years old now – beautiful and healthy.
An astute businesswoman, Sharon had her own business before she had Max. Sharon was quite isolated it was beginning to show. Even though her husband has a decent business, women need to make their own money to be financially independent. We sat around talking about different options and aided Sharon to start up her microbusiness again – mitumba (selling second hand clothes) door to door to her regular customers. She takes Max her son with her to work every day. Clothing kindly donated which was taken with us started off Sharon’s stock, as well as £70 to buy more stock.
Sharon has since opened her own clothing shop!
Sharons is a one-off. This is her pathway. She was successful before the baby was born and just needed some capital to start her business off again.
