Phoebe was born in January 2020 and has been under the care of the malnutrition clinic since birth due to her having a cleft lip and palate. She was due to have an operation in April but due to COVID the charity performing surgery were deployed elsewhere.
In September, we made contact with Smile Train – a charity performing cleft surgery free of charge. We arranged for Phoebe to attend for an assessment and surgery was carried out a week later!
Travel to the hospital is a long journey – leaving 5am to arrive by lunchtime. As well as the travel time, transport costs are expensive and out of reach for most families. Muhoroni People’s Fund facilitate this by providing the cost of the transport, our accompanying medic, food and care package for Phoebe and Mum during their 5 day hospital stay in the hospital.
Phoebe will have a follow up visit in December and we see her weekly at the malnutrition clinic. She’s made fantastic progress and her quality of life has greatly improved.
