Malnutrition affects every stage of life and has severe consequences that can affect generations.

Malnourished mothers are more likely to die in childbirth and have low birth-weight babies.

Children born to malnourished mothers are at increased risk of disease and death.

Children deprived of adequate nutrition during the first 3 years of life often have stunted growth, poor cognitive development and low immunity to disease. Compounded with the high HIV+ rate, the challenges are greater and more prevalent.

What We Do:

We are based in St. Vincent de Paul Mission Hospital, Muhoroni, and operate a mobile clinic in Kibigori.

We focus on providing infant formula milk for HIV+ women to reduce the infection transmission rate through breast milk from mother to child.
Formula milk is provided to orphans below 6 months where mothers have died during or post childbirth, or simply do not produce enough breast milk themselves. Milk is also provided for very young mums who continue with their schooling where the child is being cared for by usually the grandmother.

We provide stage two formula milk and a highly nutritious porridge to malnutrition cases over 6 months old, fortified with vitamins to aid weight gain and rebalance.

How Much Does it Cost:

The costs for each child in our 2 malnutrition clinics are approximately:

  • Milk – 2 tins per child per week. £20
  • Porridge – 2kg per person per week £2
  • Mobile medic & motorbike running costs £33 per week.

If you’d like to sponsor a child at the malnutrition clinic for a month or buy a few tins of infant formula milk then please click the donate button below.

We focus on the underlying causes of poverty which is usually through lack of access to livelihoods, which result in so many adults and children going hungry.
